Setting the record straight
Burt talks late night smokey boiler room

There’s a lot of confusion …

Swirling around the “late night smokey boiler room.”

Burt discusses his record, proudly

Burt’s happy to talk his record, any time and anywhere

For a lot of people, there’s a knee-jerk reaction that it’s a waste of time, or even worse — a distraction from a productive life. Not for Candidate Burt Silver. The late night smokey boiler room is where he finds his sweet spot, and where he gets down to what he does best — pulling in lots of earnings, coming up with all his best ideas, and strapping on a late night feedbag at the all-night dinner afterwards. How late afterwards? Usually by the time Burt shows up at the late-night dinner, the dawn of a new day is starting to break. That’s actually how Burt came up with his campaign slogan: “It’s a new dawn with Burt Silver, because he stayed up all night to see it.” New Dawn is also the name of his campaign song, as sung by Bobby Angel.

The truth about Burt Silver is this: He gets the job done.

Try not to overthink a song. Go with what pops in your head, run with it, and don’t stop until you cross the finish line.

Fan Mail
Why I love fan mail

Fan mail rocks, in a folksy way

The truth is: Any piece of mail that isn’t a bill, or junk mail, or some other promo offer is a good feeling. As much as I like receiving a letter in the mail, probably my first love is writing letters myself and sending them loose into the universe of whoever I’m sending them to. If I had a nickel for every letter I wrote, I’d have a lot of nickels, even dimes worth. My point: We all deserve fans and we all deserve mail. Letters to and from friends are a priceless form of art.

It’s a new dawn with Candidate Burt Silver, but only because he stayed up all night to see it

Last Stand at Boulder Ridge
A campfire book review

In this campfire talk …

The Cowboy at the Campfire provides a thought-provoking review of Book 2 of the Centennial Campfire Trilogy.

Buy the full trilogy of books, in kindle or paperback

Among his observations:

  • You’ll need a good book mark,
  • The book is part sequel and part prequel to the first book,
  • It’s a story of growth and idealism giving way to reality.

And spoiler report:

  • It sets the stage for the stunning cascade of conclusions Book 3.

The Centennial Campfire Trilogy by Robert V. Sobczak and Rudi Heinrich consists of three books: (1) The Legend of Campfire Charlie, (2) Last Stand at Boulder Ridge and (3) Final Campfire.

Why do I like most about the book?

To me, it’s a “rereadable” through a through. It’s the type of book you can pick up off your bookshelf and read front to back, or one chapter at a time, or even a few sentences. It is also what I call an immersive read. It takes you across the globe and deep back into time, to the point you can really get lost (in a good way).

As for my favorite scene?

It’s probably the campfire banter between Rusty and Kenny while in the desert overseas. Or maybe it’s Rusty’s airboat ride with his father? Or maybe his boyhood encounter with Edward Abbey? Or maybe it’s the journals of Col. Stanley Powell. Or maybe it’s the Bone Wars era archaeological dinosaur dig. Or maybe it’s even the prologue to the book.

What I can say for sure is this:

My mom loved it so it must be a great book!

The campfire is always crackling and visitors are always welcome at Campfire Park

Riverside Angel?
Or is it a canal?

Have you ever set off for a place …

Only to later discover you never arrived?

Such was the case with Bobby Angel at this campfire podcast. He thought he was setting up camp at the Barron River only to find out, or start to develop a hunch, that he was actually along the banks of the modern-day canal. Not that it stopped the singer/songwriter from having a quality campfire. His 2-song set includes (1) One More Melaleuca for the Road and (2) David Moody Blues, plus campfire deep dive into the history and many mysteries of the road, the river, the old railroad grade and the canal.

Well howdy folks, and I’m completely freaked out. And you know why. The fringe middle. The silent majority. Why are they so quiet?

Test Your Knowledge
Proper smart phone usage

First off,

I’d like to clear some things up.

Yes, it’s true: I am The Boogie Phone. But I’m really not as bad as everyone says. By “everyone,” I mean whatever they’re saying on the internet.

More about me: (1) Think of me as your most trusted advisor. Or in other words, don’t ask a friend – ask me! (2) In general, you should spend as much time with me as you can. When you’re bored, pick me up. (3) Think of me part friend and part hobby. Over time I hope to convince you I’m your only friend and only hobby.

Now time for the quiz:

(1) How often should you clean your phone? (a) once a day, (b) as needed, (c) never, (d) at least once a year.

(2) How much time should you spend on your phone (per day)? (a) up to but not to exceed 24 hours, (b) all waking hours, (c) as much as possible, (d) all the above

(3) What’s the best place to get accurate news? (a) old-fashioned newspaper, (b) social media, (c) word of mouth, (d) AM radio, (e) search engine

(4) True or false: Reading from a book strains your eyes?

See answer key below.

Beware of Boogie

In summary …

Over time I think you’ll truly come to see it my way.

Trilogy Trailer

As he raised the American flag …

At the crack of dawn:

Ranger Rusty thought it was just another day of being on duty at the visitor center in the liquid heart of an ancient cypress forest. And later that night, by truck, heading to a nearby campground to give a half-hour campfire talk. Or so he thought. Or was Ranger Rusty in for the journey of his life.

So begins the “movie style” trailer for the Centennial Campfire Trilogy of three books co-written by Robert V Sobczak and Rudi Heinrich. The books include: The Legend of Campfire Charlie (Book 1), Last Stand at Boulder Ridge (Book 2) and Final Campfire (Book 3).

I don’t know much, but I’m inclined to spill whatever I do out at the campfire
